"Face to Face with our Changing Library"
Homecoming Open House 2002
The Friends' Homecoming Event
was a big success! Approximately 70 people attended
with a result of 22 memberships.
Attendees came "Face to Face with our Changing Library"
The Fair attractions included:
Friends of the Library Booth
Homecoming Fair Special
- A handcrafted BCL mug made by two recent Bethel
grads to new and renewing members.
- Old Spires available for $50 donation – proceeds
to be shared by Library Friends and BCG History Center.
- Classics in Oratory, Essays and other old library
books available with a donation to the Friends.
Machinery Hill
- "That was then" photos from the past,
old Spires, the CLICnet catalog on fiche, old technology & equipment.
- At the Machinery Hill annex – "The Library
Show" used with freshman classes in the late 70s and early
80s.
Technology Building
An opportunity to create a web page under the guidance of Jesse
Gavin, a Bethel grad (’01) and the designer /developer of the
Library web page.
Education Building
Meeting intrepid Profs who explored information resources while
using the campus wireless net.
4-H Building
Helpful Reference Librarians who demonstated searches for information
on any topic.
Food Building
Food-on-a-stick, fresh apple cider, and other fair favorites at the
JavaScript Café. The Café was open for specialty coffee
drinks and more.

- Kevin M. Cragg, 1980. Professor of History. B.A.,
Wheaton College, 1967; M.A., University of Chicago, 1969; Ph.D.
Universitiy of Michigan, 1976.
- Joel D. Frederickson, 1996. Associate Professor
of Psychology. B.A. Bethel College, 1989; M.A., University of
Minnesota, 1992; Ph.D., University of Minnesota, 1997.
- Jesse Gavin. B.A., Bethel College, 2001. Jesse
is a Web Developer for Treefort.net, a Web Design company in Minneapolis.
He has been the principle designer / developer of the Library
web site for over four years and has also worked with Dr. Carl
Rasmussen in the development of a web-based photo archive Holylandphotos.org.
- Diana L. Magnuson, 1994. Associate Professor of
History. B.A., Bethel College, 1988; M.A. University of Minnesota,
1992; Ph.D., University of Minnesota, 1995. Diana is also the
Archivist for the BGC History Center and the President of the
Friends of the Bethel College Library.
